The Canadian federal government is concerned about children’s safety in Roblox

So, the Canadian government just dropped some serious news about Roblox.

They’re worried. Like, really worried.

A new government report says bad people are using Roblox to go after kids. We’re talking about violent extremists, white nationalists, and even pedophiles. They’re not just hanging out there. They’re trying to recruit and trick children.

This isn’t some random internet rumor. It came from a December 2025 Public Safety Canada brief. A publication called The Logic obtained it through an access-to-information request.

And honestly? It’s hard to ignore.

Roblox has a ton of young kids. Like, really young. The platform has social media features and lets anyone make games. That mix? It creates big risks.

The report says those things “create unique vulnerabilities and risks” for kids. Then it says something even more direct:

“As such, Roblox may impact youth radicalization in unexpected ways.”

That’s government talk for “this is a real problem.”

The report also says bad moderating makes it worse. Dangerous groups feel safe there. And once a bad person finds a kid on Roblox, they try to move them to apps like Discord or Snapchat. That’s where it gets even harder to protect them.

Some groups are using Roblox to “identify and victimize new targets for child exploitation.” Those aren’t my words. That’s straight from the report.

This part is heavy. But it needs to be said.

The RCMP put out a warning last year about a violent group called 764. They target kids on Roblox and other games. They use threats and fear to make kids hurt themselves or send bad images.

One teenager in Halifax was charged in October 2025 with child porn charges linked to this group.

The government report says Roblox’s setup makes it easier for this stuff to slip through. Self-harm posts. Grooming. Exploitation. It’s not just a fear anymore. It’s happening.

I’m not saying this to scare you. But if your kid plays Roblox, you need to know.

Criticism and litigation around child safety in Roblox continue to increase.

Roblox has been in trouble for this for years. But now it’s getting worse.

Just this month — April 2026 — Roblox agreed to pay $35.8 million to settle a case with three states. That’s West Virginia, Alabama, and Nevada. They said Roblox didn’t do enough to protect kids.

Then, in February 2026, Los Angeles County sued Roblox. They called the platform a “breeding ground for predators.” They said kids keep seeing sexual content and getting groomed.

Also in February, Australia’s communications minister asked why Roblox has a PG rating when kids are getting hurt there.

Roblox says they care about safety. Their chief safety officer said, “Safety is at the core of everything we do.” He talked about AI tools and moderation teams.

But if all that was working, would the Canadian government be putting out reports like this?

What can you actually do?

I’m not here to tell you to delete Roblox. I know kids love it. My own family has young ones who play.

But here’s what I think helps:

• Use the parental controls. Don’t just set them once. Check them again.
• Talk to your kid. Ask what games they play. Who do they talk to?
• Tell them never to move chats to Discord or Snapchat with someone from Roblox.
• Keep an eye on their account. You don’t need to spy. Just stay involved.

The government wants stricter rules for Roblox. Better age checks. Stricter moderation. More honesty from the company.

I want that too. But until then, we have to watch out for ourselves.
